Adelaide United is excited to announce the signing of Dutch striker, Jordy Thomassen, on loan for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.
The 25-year-old striker joins the Reds from De Graafschap in the Dutch Eredivisie having spent his entire career to-date in the Netherlands.
After two standout seasons in 2016/17 and 2017/18 with Reds legend Sergio van Dijk’s former club, Helmond Sport, Thomassen managed 27 goals and 11 assists before joining De Graafschap for the current season.
“Jordy is a young striker who is very strong,” United Director of Football, Aurelio Vidmar, said. “He is an aerial threat being 189cm tall but is also comfortable striking the ball with both feet.
“At just 25, Jordy is a hungry and determined footballer who has been doing well in the Netherlands over the last few seasons.
Speaking after touching-down in Adelaide, Thomassen said he was excited at the opportunity of playing in the Hyundai A-League, and can’t wait to begin playing with his new teammates.
“I’m very excited to have joined Adelaide United for the rest of the A-League season,” Thomassen said. “The team is in a good position in the league and, from the games that I have watched, I can see it is playing some quality football.
“Coming to Australia is a big opportunity for me and I am fit and ready to give 100 per cent to my new team.
“I had the option to remain in Europe with other clubs, but after speaking with the Club and also Marco Kurz, the football and direction of the team is something I wanted to be part of.”
