Adelaide United vs Newcastle Jets FFA Cup 2019 Quarter Final tickets

Adelaide United boast an indomitable home record in the FFA Cup having never lost a game at either Marden Sports Complex or Coopers Stadium.

That impressive streak translates to nine victories – five at Coopers Stadium and four at Marden.

Indeed, Coopers Stadium will be the venue for Adelaide’s fifth Quarter Final appearance which will occur against Newcastle Jets, in what is expected to be an intriguing matchup.

It is the second meeting between the two sides in the tournament after a Michael Marrone bullet header secured a 1-0 victory at Marden in the Round of 32 in 2017.

For the Jets, however, they are in unfamiliar territory as this is the furthest the team has reached since the competition’s inception in 2014.

The Reds have produced some iconic moments in Hindmarsh, from the two FFA Cup Final triumphs in front of packed crowds in 2014 and 2018, as well as the extra-time win over Sydney FC in 2015.

So without further ado here are our five FFA Cup triumphs at Coopers Stadium:

2014 – Round of 16 – 2-0 win against Brisbane Roar

Adelaide’s first cup game at Coopers Stadium with over 4,000 in attendance produced a solid 2-0 victory over the Roar. Bruce Djite put the home side in front after finishing Awer Mabil’s cross before Pablo Sánchez assisted compatriot Sergio Cirio two minutes into the second-half.

FFA Cup 2014

2014 – Semi-final – 3-2 win against Central Coast Mariners

An absorbing contest played out in the semi-final encounter between the Reds and Central Coast. Sergio Cirio continued his scoring form in the cup after netting a brace with Awer Mabil also finding the target with a goal just before half-time. The Mariners grabbed a goal back in injury time but the Reds held on.

FFA Cup 2014

2014 – Final – 1-0 win against Perth Glory

Adelaide welcomed Perth Glory to Coopers Stadium for the decider with more than 16,000 fans in attendance. Marcelo Carrusca’s defence splitting ball sent Cirio through on goal and the Spaniard took a touch past the onrushing ‘keeper and steered his angled finish beyond the last-ditch efforts of the defender.

FFA Cup 2014

2015 – Round 16 – 2-1 win AET against Sydney FC

The closest Adelaide has come to losing at home in the cup still saw the Reds prevail 2-1 in extra-time. Rhyan Grant opened the scoring for the visitors, however Pablo Sánchez equalised from point-blank range just with half-time approaching. Dylan McGowan then sparked jubilant scenes with a 114th minute winner only to be sent off moments later.

FFA Cup

2018 – Final – 2-1 win against Sydney FC

Adelaide were seeking to avenge their FFA Cup Final loss to the same opponent a year earlier when they entertained the Sky Blues. Two stunning Craig Goodwin strikes inspired the Reds to a 2-1 triumph and become the first side to lift the trophy on two occasions.
