Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of Australian international, James Troisi, on a two-year contract.
Troisi will remain with the Reds until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2020/21 season in what is a massive coup for the Club.
The 31-year-old is Head Coach, Gertjan Verbeek’s, fourth new recruit this off-season, bringing a wealth of experience and further pedigree to the team.
The Adelaide local left South Australia as a teenager and joined Newcastle United’s youth academy before signing a professional contract with the English Premier League outfit in 2007.
Ahead of the 2008/09 campaign, Troisi moved to Süper Lig side Gençlerbirliği SK, before spending the next three years with fellow Turkish top-flight club Kayserispor.
In 2012 Troisi signed with Italian giants Juventus before joining Atalanta in a co-ownership deal.
Troisi returned to Australia a year later with Melbourne Victory and netted 12 goals in 27 matches, before heading back overseas with stints in Belgium, Saudi Arabia, and China.
He had spent the last three seasons with Victory in his second stint with the club, registering a total of 17 goals and 17 assists in 91 appearances.
A versatile footballer, Troisi is capable of operating as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, while having the ability to score and assist goals on a consistent basis.

Troisi has also received 37 senior caps with the Socceroos and also scored the winning goal in the 2015 Asian Cup Final.
“I’m really excited to be returning to Adelaide for the first time to live and play football in about 16 years,” Troisi said. “Adelaide is where I’m from and I’m proud to be joining my hometown club and bringing my family back to where I grew up and my football journey began.
“It was always tough coming up against Adelaide when I played against them in the past but to be lining up in red for the next two seasons is a great feeling.
“The team has already been doing very well having made the FFA Cup Final and I’m looking forward to adding to the positive results the Club has had in the A-League season.
“The new campaign is starting soon and I’m looking forward to getting underway with my new teammates.”
Speaking on bringing Troisi to the Club, Director of Football, Bruce Djite, said: “We’re extremely happy to have James become a part of the Adelaide United family for the next two seasons.
“James is a very talented player and has proven this throughout the course of his impressive career.
“He has represented some big clubs and has been an important part of many Socceroo campaigns and I am sure he will help bolster our midfield, adding further quality to the team for the upcoming season.
“James’ exceptional technical ability in possession will be an important attribute, considering Gertjan’s attacking philosophy and the way he wants the team to play.”
Troisi, who will wear the number 10 shirt for the Reds, will be available for selection for Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League when United takes on Sydney FC at Coopers Stadium.
