Adelaide United duo, Al Hassan Toure and Daniel Marguš, have been included in the Australia U-23’s twenty-five player squad that will assemble in Chongqing, China this week for a three-match friendly series throughout the November FIFA window.
The team, led by interim Australia U-23 Head Coach Gary van Egmond who oversaw the Young Socceroos’ successful qualification for the 2020 AFC U-19 Championship in Chinese Taipei on Sunday, will play DPR Korea (15/11), Lithuania (17/11) and hosts China PR (19/11) at the Chongqing City Dazu District Sports Centre Stadium, as Australia’s preparations for the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship in Thailand continue.
Like Australia, China PR and DPR Korea will compete at the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship in Thailand, where three Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualification places for the men’s football tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics will be highly sought after.
In Thailand next January Australia will contest Group A alongside the host nation as well as Iraq and Bahrain.
November’s friendly matches in China will provide more opportunities for players to stake their claim for a place in Australia 2020 AFC U-23 Championship squad. In October 2019 Australia held a training camp in Qatar, while in September 2019 the team played two international friendlies against New Zealand in New South Wales.
