Kahlia Hogg says it is a privilege to be named as one of Adelaide United Women’s vice-captains for the Westfield W-League 2019/20 season.

Hogg joins teammate Laura Johns as a vice-captain to skipper Amber Brooks, who was given the armband for the campaign.

The 25-year-old said it was a tremendous honour to be presented with the extra responsibility.

“For me I’m incredibly proud and I feel really privileged to be able to take captaincy alongside Amber and Laura and lead the girls out this season,” Hogg revealed.

“For me it’s a massive privilege more than anything.”

The midfielder is eager to hit the ground running this season after being limited to just two appearances last year due a lingering knee issue.

“I’ve been working really hard to get back from the injury,” she explained.

“So really looking forward to stepping out and opening game of the season for the league it’s exciting in that sense.

“And for me on a personal note it’s really exciting to be stepping back out on the park with Adelaide so can’t wait to kick-off the season.”

Thursday night’s opponents, Western Sydney Wanderers, were the league’s cellar dwellers in 2018/19.

However, Hogg, predicted that to change and suggested they must be cognisant of WSW’s attacking firepower, before insisting that ultimately, they are only focused on themselves.

“I think Wanderers have done well recruiting,” she said.

“They’ve got some really high-quality internationals, but likewise I think Ivan has done a fantastic job of bringing our international signings in as well.

“So we expect Wanderers to be a pretty dynamic and attacking team, so for us having good defensive shape and structure is important.

“But at the end of the day, the main focus is always on how we play our game, and how we’re going to go out and win and score goals for ourselves more than worrying too much about the opposition.”
