Adelaide United Women’s profligacy in front of goal proved costly in their loss to Sydney FC Women, according to Head Coach, Ivan Karlović.
The Reds succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against the reigning champions at Marden Sports Complex on Friday night.
Karlović’s side dominated the match and created enough chances to collect all three points but a 57th minute goal from Caitlin Foord was the difference.
“Obviously it’s disappointing that we didn’t get the three points,” Karlović said after the game.
“I think we created enough chances to win two games of football tonight. I couldn’t be prouder of the girls we just need to make sure we’re taking our opportunities it’s as simple as that.”
Karlović said the team must be more clinical after their wasteful finishing let them down, in what was an otherwise encouraging performance.

“I’m not one to say it’s unlucky because you create your own luck,” he said.
“We just need to get better in certain areas and tonight that was just finishing because I thought we did everything well.
“The most difficult thing is to create opportunities, I think we created a number of opportunities and should’ve been comfortably in the lead at half-time.
“So we need to continue to work on that, improve on that. But like I said to the girls at the end of the game, if you play like that on a regular basis I think you’re going to win more games than you won’t.”
The Reds boss also praised the impact of United States recruit, Mallory Weber, who enjoyed another impressive outing, despite being unable to notch a goal or assist.
The 25-year-old was lively throughout the entire 90 minutes causing all sorts of issues for the Sydney defence with her marauding runs on the left flank.
“I thought Mal was really good last week and then again tonight,” he continued.
“I think she was a handful for Sydney and unfortunate not to get an opportunity or an assist.
“Once again we’ll continue to work and she’s obviously disappointed she didn’t take her opportunities.
“But if she keeps putting herself in those positions, I think she’s going to score a few goals for us.”
