BOSA FC prevailed 5-3 in an entertaining, drama-filled encounter against Brahma Lodge to clinch the 2020 Alex Cichanowski Shield at Coopers Stadium on Saturday.
The clash served as a curtain raiser to Adelaide United’s Round 22 game against Western United as well as launch the upcoming South Australian Amateur Soccer League (SAASL) season.
The first-ever Alex Cichanowski shield to be contested at Coopers Stadium in its current state followed the recent announcement of a partnership between Adelaide United and the SAASL.
Last year’s Saturday Premier Division Champions, BOSA, went into the game as underdogs against the reigning Sunday Premier Division Champions, Brahma Lodge, boasting the likes of former Reds Iain Fyfe and Chad Bugeja.
But it was a BOSA striker by the name of Ousmanou Mohamadou who scored a remarkable four goals to write his name over the tie and was subsequently awarded the Player of the Match.
George Vatsilas also chimed in with a goal for the Hounds.
It was a relatively even affair in the first period and that was indicative of the 1-1 scoreline at the break.
But a helter-skelter start to the second-half saw Dan Godley’s men go 3-1 up before being pegged back to 3-3 by Fred Agius’ side.
And just as the momentum appeared to swing in Brahma’s favour, BOSA managed two re-take the lead before adding another late on to seal an impressive win.

SAASL President, George Fotopoulos, thanked the Club for providing the opportunity to play the match at Coopers Stadium, and hoped to see it continue under the new partnership.
“From our point of view, it was a great game, it was actually a great environment,” he said.
“We see this as an ongoing event, especially for the Cichanowski Shield in the partnership with Adelaide United, so we’re very positive about it.
“We see great opportunities with the partnership and especially the relationship we’re building with (Director of Football) Bruce (Djite) and (Chief Executive Officer) Nathan (Kosmina) there, it’s really good.”
