For Panagiotis Kikianis, pulling on the United shirt is something he has never taken for granted.
So when the young defender ran out for his 50th appearance in red in Sunday’s thrilling 3-1 win over Macarthur, it wasn’t just another milestone – it was a moment to reflect on a journey he once only dreamed about.
“It’s a massive privilege,” Kikianis said.
“It’s a dream to play one game for this club, let alone 50 – especially with a bunch of boys like this.”
Still early in his career, Kikianis has quickly established himself as a key part of United’s backline, growing in confidence and composure with every game.
His development has been evident not only in his defensive work, but also in his willingness to influence games with the ball – something he admits has been a learning process that Bart Vriends has helped by his side.
“That’s something I’ve learned a lot this season,” he said.
“I used to always want to make that killer pass, but you’ve got to find the balance. It comes with maturity, and I’m learning that more every game.”
That growth has come with guidance from senior teammates, helping shape both his game and his understanding of what it takes to perform consistently at A-League level.
His milestone match became even more memorable when he found the back of the net — stepping up in a crucial moment for the team to put the Reds 2-1 up on Sunday.
“I don’t expect to score goals,” Kikianis said.
“But when it fell to me, I knew I had to take the opportunity.”
In front of home fans, it was a moment that captured both his instinct and his belief and one that reflected the team’s determination to deliver when it matters.
Despite growing external attention and speculation around his future, Kikianis remains grounded – focused solely on the present and what he can achieve with United.
“When people are talking about you, it means you must be doing something right,” he said.
“But I don’t really look into it. I just focus on playing as well as I can for this club.”
That mindset has been key to his rapid rise, allowing him to continue improving without distraction.

As the season reaches its decisive phase, Kikianis is clear on the collective goal.
“We want to finish as high as we can,” he said.
“A home final would be amazing… but we just have to focus on ourselves and get the job done.”
From dreaming of one appearance to reaching 50, Kikianis’ journey is only just beginning.
But if his rise so far is anything to go by, there is plenty more to come – and plenty more moments in red still ahead.
