Football will return to Adelaide Oval with an Adelaide United FC blockbuster scheduled at the venue with today’s release of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season by Football Federation Australia (FFA).
The Reds will host bitter rivals Melbourne Victory at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval on Friday 17 October, which is a standout fixture of the Reds’ 2014/15 draw.
“We are delighted with the draw for the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season. The obvious highlight is the Friday night game against Melbourne Victory on 17 October 2014,” said Club Chairman Greg Griffin.
“This is the first major sporting event played at the Oval other than AFL or cricket. It brings together the two genuine rivals in the A-League and sporting Australia, the Reds and Victory, whose games are invariably action packed and exciting. This game will showcase the quality of the A-League, and the superbly refurbished Adelaide Oval to well over 100 million people in Asia alone.
“We wish to specifically acknowledge the work of Sports Minister Leon Bignell in securing this fixture through his work with the FFA. As a result, thousands more South Australians will be in attendance at this marquee event, including many who may not have previously experienced the excitement of our code in this world-class stadium.”
Other highlights from the draw are two Friday night games at Coopers Stadium against Sydney FC on 7 November and Brisbane Roar on 12 December. The Friday night games are against the teams Reds fans turn out in force to watch. There are two Saturday night games in December against the Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane Roar, again great fixtures for the fans with another two later in the season.
The Reds will also be hosting three mid-week games as well as playing on New Year’s Eve against Wellington Phoenix, which is part of “The Summer of Football” calendar that will see 21 matches played over 22 days (from 19 December to 8 January).
Last year Josep Gombau’s team turned Coopers Stadium into a fortress for the Reds and Gombau along with the Club urges all fans to attend all games.
The Club believes the draw is fair and balanced in this most difficult programming year due to the AFC Asian Cup 2015 and the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup.
Season 10 will kick-off on 10 October 2014 with the Grand Final scheduled to be played on 10 May 2015.
