Adelaide United Appoints Club Legend Isaías as Assistant Coach

Adelaide United is delighted to announce that club icon Isaías Sánchez has been appointed as Assistant Coach to Head Coach Airton Andrioli ahead of the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s season.

Isaías has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third, marking the beginning of his coaching career following his recent retirement from professional football.

Isaías, who currently holds a UEFA B coaching license, shared his excitement about the new role:

“Adelaide United has been such a big part of my life for more than a decade, and I feel incredibly lucky to keep playing a role in the Club’s journey. It’s a privilege to step into this new chapter, and I’m excited to work alongside Airton and the coaching team as we continue building something special together.”

Isaías, who retired last month as the club’s all-time appearance holder with 289 matches, has been a central figure in the Reds’ history since his arrival in 2013. The Spanish midfielder played a pivotal role in Adelaide United’s 2015/16 Championship and Premiership double and was a four-time Aurelio Vidmar Medalist. His leadership and deep understanding of the club’s culture make him an invaluable addition to the coaching staff.

Technical Director, Ernest Faber expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment:

“Isaías embodies the spirit and values of Adelaide United. His transition from player to coach is a natural progression, and we are thrilled to appoint him to assist Airton and Adrian as we embark on this new chapter. His experience and insight will be instrumental in developing our squad and maintaining the club’s commitment to nurturing South Australian talent.”

The appointment of Isaías reinforces Adelaide United’s dedication to fostering leadership from within and preserving the club’s identity. His promotion to Assistant Coach is a testament to the club’s philosophy of developing talent both on and off the field.

Isaías has officially commenced his coaching duties coinciding with the start of pre-season training.
