Adelaide United ready for Showdown with Wanderers in Australia Cup Quarter Final

Isuzu Ute A-League Men’s Head Coach Carl Veart is focused on ensuring his team is well-prepared for Adelaide United’s Quarter Final clash against Western Sydney Wanderers in the Australia Cup on Thursday night at Service FM Stadium.

Having progressed through both the Round of 32 and Round of 16 against RAA NPLSA opposition, Veart acknowledged the upcoming match against an A-League side will be a significant test of their readiness.

“We’re both at the same sort of point in preseason, and I think you could see in the first two games, we were a little bit underdone physically in match sharpness,” said Veart.

“We need to keep doing well in the Cup, so we can keep getting good quality games in the A-League season.”

The Wanderers, who have also progressed through the early rounds by defeating NPL opponents, have shown a level of dominance that has not gone unnoticed by Veart.

“The Wanderers have had two good results, so it’s going to be a difficult game for us, a good test, and hopefully we can improve on our first two performances and get the result tomorrow night.”

Veart also indicated his team will be managing minor injuries, with Bart Vriends and Archie Goodwin to miss the match.

“Bart is still recovering from a slight injury picked up in preseason training, and our goal is to get him ready for the start of the A-League season.”

“Archie is a young player that’s had a checkered history with his injuries. He trained quite hard last week, and he’s pulled up quite sore from last week. So we’re just monitoring his loading and to make sure we can get him right for a long A-League season,” Veart concluded.

Luke Duzel will also miss out through a foot injury.

Adelaide United will face Western Sydney Wanderers at Service FM Stadium on Thursday 12 September 2024, with kick-off at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
