Adelaide United has compiled a team of Club greats to take part in a legends match against the Australian Defence Force open men’s football team before the Remembrance Round clash against Perth Glory on Sunday.
As mentioned, the team will be coached by former boss and current Director of Football, Aurelio Vidmar.
Here is a brief overview of their careers with the Club.
Midfielders
Jonas Salley
The combative midfield was a fan favourite and known for his defensive attributes, breaking up play while screening the defence. Salley moved to Adelaide in 2007 and went on to amass a total of 40 appearances with the Club in two seasons.
Fabian Barbiero
Barbiero made his debut for the Club in 2008 and quickly endeared himself to Reds fans with his knack of scoring phenomenal strikes. He bagged nine goals in 114 matches across all competitions from midfield, with his most memorable finish occurring against Brisbane Roar in the 2009 preliminary final.
Travis Dodd
One of Adelaide’s greatest ever players to don the Reds jersey, Travis Dodd, produced a plethora of iconic moments during his five-year spell. As a right-winger, Dodd was renowned for his electrifying pace to evade defenders and ability to score prolifically from wide areas. He also served as the Club’s captain in his latter years and netted 39 goals in 166 games.

Lucas Pantelis
The fleet-footed winger was a headache for most opposition defences, thanks to his brilliant technical ability. Pantelis joined the Reds ahead of the inaugural Hyundai A-League 2005/06 season, returning to his hometown. He registered 124 appearances, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Jason Spagnuolo
Spagnuolo arrived from local National Premier League side MetroStars at the beginning of 2006. After impressing then boss, John Kosmina, he was given a contract ahead of the 2006/07 campaign and went on to be awarded the Club Champion following a stellar season, contributing a number of assists. The ambidextrous winger scored one goal in 55 matches.
Marcelo Carrusca
The Argentine playmaker is one of the best imports to have represented the Club. Signed ahead of the 2012/13 season, Carrusca was known for his silky skills in possession and ability to unlock defences with his superb passing range. He was an integral member of the squad that lifted an historic Premiership and Championship double in 2016. Carrusca scored 27 goals in 122 appearances.

Strikers
Carl Veart
A natural finisher, Veart scored the Club’s maiden goal in 2003 in the old National Soccer League against Brisbane Strikers. He repeated that effort two years later by bagging the opener in the Hyundai A-League’s first-ever match which clinched a 1-0 win away to Newcastle Jets. Veart retired from professional football after the 2006/07 season and found the back-of-the-net 24 times in 79 matches.
Cristiano
The Brazilian striker arrived in 2008 having previously plied his trade predominantly in the Netherlands. In his first season he scored 10 goals in all competitions, which included a stunning strike from distance in the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup. Cristiano managed 13 goals with the Reds during a two-year stint.
