Adelaide United Women is delighted to confirm the arrivals of Iceland internationals, Fanndís Fridriksdóttir and Gunnhildur Jónsdóttir, ahead of the commencement of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season.

The pair arrive in Adelaide with an abundance of experience and further bolster the quality within the squad.

Fridriksdóttir, a left-winger, has spent the majority of her playing career in her homeland, most noticeably with Breidablik where she scored a prolific 97 goals in 173 games. She has also played in Norway before moving to French club Olympique de Marseille in 2017/18.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay with the national team as well, amassing 97 caps and scoring 15 goals.

Meanwhile, Jónsdóttir strengthens the midfield with her composure and skill in possession. The 30-year-old began at Icelandic outfit Stjarnan and then played in Norway for five years until embarking on a new challenge in the United States with National Women’s Soccer League club, Utah Royals FC.

Jónsdóttir has found the back of the net nine times in 58 matches for the national team.

Head Coach, Ivan Karlović, said both signings were massive coups for the Club: “Fanndís and Gunnhildur are vastly experienced players and have demonstrated their consistency and quality over several years,” Kalorvić said.

“Both are integral players with the Iceland national team and are strong additions to our squad.

“Fanndís has been a prolific goal scorer throughout her career and we’re expecting her to bring that attacking prowess in the final third.

“As for Gunnhildur, she further reinforces our midfield and is an excellent reader of the game, capable of getting forward and finding herself on the scoresheet.”
