Australia Cup 2022 Round of 32 Preview – Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United

Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets will meet for the third occasion in the Australia Cup on Saturday night at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Reds officially launch their 2022/23 campaign, determined to set off on the right note and maintain their perfect record against Newcastle in this competition.

Adelaide has advanced to the last 16 in six of its seven attempts and has lifted the trophy a record three times: in 2014, 2018 and 2019.

Arthur Papas’ outfit qualified for the tournament via the preliminary rounds after dispatching Perth Glory in a one-off play-off.

The Jets have recruited quite heavily over the offseason with Brandon O’Neill and Reno Piscopo the highest profiles to sign with the club.

Adelaide reached the Quarter Finals of last year’s iteration, falling to eventual winners Melbourne Victory while the Jets did not feature following a preliminary round defeat to Western United.

Team news

New signing Harry Van der Saag could make his Reds debut tomorrow night, while youngsters Panashe Madanha, Asad Kasumović and Ethan Alagich have also made the trip over. Ben Warland has also been included and could feature upon his return to the Club.
