Adelaide United is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Austin Ayoubi for the remainder of the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
A junior product of Adelaide Comets FC, Ayoubi also spent time in the Football SA NTC program and played senior football with West Torrens Birkalla and Adelaide City before his most recent stint with North Eastern MetroStars in the National Premier League SA (NPL SA).
During the 2023 NPL SA season, Ayoubi was part of the MetroStars outfit that won both the Federation Cup and NPL SA Premiership, and made it to the quarter finals of the Australia Cup, scoring in his side’s defeat by Melbourne City.
The 22-year-old was also selected in the National Premier League Team of the Year 2023.
With previous experience playing in the Cypriot second division for Othellos Athienou, Ayoubi has made the most of trialing with Adelaide United to earn a spot in Head Coach Carl Veart’s squad.
“I’m really excited to sign with the Adelaide United and grateful to Carl and everyone at the club who have given me the opportunity first to trial and now to be part of the squad,” Ayoubi said.
“I also need to thank MetroStars who have been so good to me both while I was playing there last season and also recently in allowing me the chance to spend time training with Adelaide United.
“I know the hard work is just beginning, but I am looking forward to doing whatever I can to contribute and make an impact for the side.”
Veart said Ayoubi had impressed with his work rate and technical ability.
“Austin is a player who really impressed me during the NPL season and since coming into the fold to allow us a closer look,” Veart said.
“He is a talented midfielder who likes to attack and offers real versatility because he can play wide or more centrally.
“We are grateful to MetroStars for giving Austin the chance to trial with our club and make the move into professional football. Now it is up to him to work hard and make the most of that opportunity.”
Ayoubi will wear the number 42 for Adelaide United.
He will not be able to be registered for the club until after the FIFA Transfer Window re-opens in January.
