Adrian Stenta is hoping Adelaide United can get a good result against Melbourne City and begin to build some momentum after last weekend’s win.

The Reds return to AAMI Park two weeks following their 5-1 defeat to Melbourne Victory.

In that time, Adelaide bounced back and delivered a resilient performance to seal a late 2-1 triumph over Canberra United.

Stenta said he was delighted with the players’ application in that contest at Marden.

“The result was really pleasing,” he told AUFC Media.

“The resilience shown was on display and was great. Still some things we can work on as far as performance goes.

“But all we can really do is give it our best effort and try and get a result like that, especially after what happened in round 1.

“So I’m really pleased with how the girls came out and attacked the game.”

American defender Kayla Sharples, on loan from Chicago Red Stars, could be a chance to feature.

However, Stenta remained undecided on her availability given she only began training this week after completing her quarantine.

Regardless, the 24-year-old will certainly strengthen Adelaide’s defensive line.

“She’s a chance to feature this week, we’re not 100% sure yet whether she’ll be included (in the travelling squad) or not,” he said.

“But she’s a really good player, great person, works really hard, and is here for the team but also to get personally.

“So she’s a wonderful acquisition and I’m really looking forward to see what she can do.”

Melbourne City suffered its first loss of the season last weekend after 2-1 to Victory.

Stenta is anticipating a hard-fought battle.

“They’re a good side, they’re well coached,” he said.

“We’re expecting a really tough test, they’ll be looking to bounce back just like we were after our first defeat.

“So it’s going to be a challenging game and a chance for us to build some momentum for this season.”
