Goodwin said:
“It is very humbling to come back and see this many people come out and welcome me home.

“I think we’ve seen it from the scenes at live viewing sites during our games in the tournament how well we have been supported throughout.

“We felt that support from Qatar and coming home and seeing everyone here is humbling.

“I’m fortunate to get a lot of support from Adelaide United supporters and the South Australian football community, but to see everyone outside Adelaide Oval for the (Round of 16 game against Argentina) is really nice to experience.

“I hope I’ve been able to do this city proud.

A group of passionate Adelaide United and Socceroos supporters welcomed Craig Goodwin home at the Adelaide Airport on Tuesday evening.

“Overall, we have to look back on the World Cup with fond memories and a sense of success because with what was predicted of us compared to what we actually did was fantastic.

“We got more points than the Golden Generation from 2006 and pushed Argentina all the way until the very last kick of the game, so we’re proud of what we could accomplish.

“But, for us now, I think the biggest thing for us as a group is that we hope we’ve inspired the next generation of young boys and girls to do even better than we have on the world stage.”
