Argentine midfield wizard Marcelo Carrusca says that he is very happy and excited about what the future holds over the next season or so at the Reds.

After putting pen to paper yesterday, extending his deal with the club until the end of the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season Carrusca was emphatic in his support for Reds Coach Josep Gombau and the style of football that has been implemented at the club.

“Josep-s project is very interesting. The way that we are playing is fantastic and this is one of the main reasons that I made the decision to continue here”, Carrusca said.

Despite fielding several offers from other clubs over the last few weeks the former Argentinian under 20 representative made it clear that his heart was always with the Reds and that only a team effort will produce the results required a sign of the type of culture that now exists at the club.

“There were other offers but always my mind was here on the game, on the tournament not on other things. I don-t want to speak about other clubs I just want to talk about Adelaide. I don-t want to just speak about me because everyone is important in the team is doing a very good job, everyone is important in the team as Josep has said many times before. I hope the club can keep as many players as possible because we now understand the style. It-s not easy, we have been training for eight months or so and just now really starting to understand what we need to do on the pitch”.

For his part Gombau says that he still believes the best is yet to come and that securing the prized signature of Carrusca will go along way to establishing the type of football that he wants to put in place for the long term but to assist that goal he-d like to see as many players as possible remain at the club.

“We are happy that Chelo stays with us for one more season because he is an important player but for me every single player in the team is important. Now we need to try and keep the most players as possible. This is also important because the project has just started this season and we need to keep as many players who have been with us for one more season so we don-t have to start from zero next season and we can take the next steps tactically and in the way we need to play”, Gombau said.

“I am so happy with the players, they are doing very well even from the first day when we weren-t getting the results because the players have worked very hard. For me it is a process we are in. The best football is still to come next season when we can arrange some different things but the way the players are training and playing I am so satisfied because of the effort the players are putting in. I am so satisfied with the players that I have”.

Reds fans can take heart from the comments of Carusca and Gombau that there is still a lot of work to do and that the best football lies ahead of this group of players and the Adelaide United Football Club and they can rest assured that the coach and players are leaving no stone unturned to get there.
