It was the Reds who started brightest after a bursting run and cross down the flank from Michael Zullo left Covic scrambling to keep it out. Djite was quickest to react and placed the ball right at the feet of Carrusca who stabbed it into the empty net.
A shuffle in formation from Gombau worked in favour of the Reds as he opted for a 4-5-1 set up which pushed Jeronimo to the right of midfield while Carrusca – returning to the starting lineup after injury – was deployed as a roaming midfielder.
The focus on midfield was crucial for the victory as the Reds dominated possession, and chances, throughout the match.
Gombau was happy with the team performance, but knew that recent results are there because the team is making fewer mistakes.
“We are satisfied in the end but we need to work hard to win again next week.”

The Wanderers- most notable chance came on the half hour mark as star midfielder Ono tried a spectacular bicycle kick that sailed over Galekovic-s goal.
Both managers turned towards their subs in the second half of the match – Gombau looked to secure the win by switching Carrusca for the defensive minded Elsey while Tony Popovic changed former Reds dynamo Tomi Juric for Mark Bridge.
The substitutions proved futile for a Wanderers side that struggled to overcome a hardworking and dominant Reds side.
Adelaide United will now look to continue their run of good form in next week-s match at Coopers Stadium against a Melbourne Heart side determined to keep winning.
