Adelaide United FC is pleased to officially announce that 30 year old Argentinean midfielder Marcelo Carrusca has agreed to terms to remain with the Reds for the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

Carrusca, a product of Estudiantes de La Plata’s famed youth system, is arguably one of the best imports to have played in the A-League and Adelaide United Football Director Michael Petrillo said the club was pleased to secure the classy midfielder-s services again after a few weeks of uncertainty about the Argentine-s future at Adelaide.

“Marcelo is not only a quality player but he is also a quality person and to have been able to secure him for at least one more season is great news not only for our fans but for the A-League in general. We were always confident Marcelo wanted to stay at the club and we are extremely pleased that the negotiations have now come to a successful conclusion and Marcelo has agreed to remain with us beyond this current season” Petrillo said

In 2006 Carrusca signed for arguably Turkey-s biggest club, Galatasaray, where he featured in two UEFA Champions League games and two UEFA Cup matches before being loaned to Mexican Primera División-s Cruz Azul in 2008. Carrusca who also represented his home country at Under 20 level, having competed at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship as a team-mate to players such as Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascerano and Pablo Zabaleta to name just a few said many factors contributed to his decision to remain a Red beyond the 2013/14 season.

“I am very happy to renew my contract. There are many reasons, my family is very happy here, the coach and the fans and the club everybody helped me every day and one other reason is now what we are doing on the pitch with the style of play. The other reason is we now know what we need to do on the pitch. We have one style and we are working very hard every day on the pitch to learn this style. I love the way that we now want to play and for that I want to stay and help the team to reach the finals and of course like everybody I want to win the Grand Final. Finally I-d also like to say thanks firstly to the fans, to the Club, to the Coach Josep Gombau and to the Football Director Michael Petrillo for everything they have done”, Carrusca said.

Reds coach Josep Gombau now has all of his foreign player spots filled for the 2014/15 season and is confident the group is as good as any in the A-League.

“ I think all of our foreign players are doing very well and it-s very good news for our fans and the sponsors that Marcelo has decided to stay with Adelaide United because he is an important player in our team and also a very good person in the group”, Gombau said.

Gombau also is pleased to be able to continue working with as many of the current players as possible to further develop the new playing style within the club and the signature of Carrusca goes a long way to achieving this very important objective.

“It-s important to keep as many players together as we can and maybe we can add just one or two new players for next season so we will not have so much work to do to introduce the style to a new group of players. With a player like Marcelo this is also an important reason to keep him here as he is very comfortable now with the style, he is an exceptional talent and also is a very experienced player and these things bring a lot of value to our team to be able to reach our objectives for the club in the future”.

The new deal will see Carrusca remain at Adelaide for at least his third season with the new contract concluding at the end of May 2015.
