Džengis Čavušević was proud to score his maiden Adelaide United goal in a 5-2 rout of Newcastle Jets at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.
However, the Slovenian striker was more than willing to shift the focus on the team’s impressive display instead of individual milestones.
Čavušević grabbed Adelaide’s fifth and final goal of the evening with a clinical finish to open his account for the Club.
“It makes me happy but it and makes me happier for these three points,” Čavušević said.
“Because it’s a really important game for us, for morale and everything.
“The whole team played really well, we helped each other and you could see on the pitch we are working really like a team.
“And it’s not just one player who is making something with quality.”
Earlier, Daniel Adlung netted a first-half brace before Ben Kantarovski reduced the deficit for the visitors.

But Adelaide responded expertly, producing three quality goals through Ryan Kitto’s one-on-one effort, a Johan Absalonsen volley and a neat finish from Čavušević.
“When you’re playing and when you’re winning, you’re always enjoying it (football),” he said
“But I still need time to adapt on everything, the team and the league and now I’m on the right direction so I hope I can continue like this.
“But most importantly it’s the team so without my teammates I cannot be on a good direction.
“So they’re really helping me also away from the pitch, so I’m really enjoying it.”
Čavušević hoped to see a massive crowd turn up and show their support this Friday night against Wellington Phoenix – the Club’s final home game of the regular season.
“It’s also good to have a big crowd and to have a good atmosphere in the stadium,” he said.
“But I think Friday it was also a nice atmosphere that the people could enjoy the game with a nice result.
“And I hope they can come in good numbers.”
The win over the Jets consolidates Adelaide’s aspirations of securing a Hyundai A-League finals appearance, who remain in fifth spot with 33 points.
