The Reds held out the fast-finishing home side who could’ve won it with late chances to Santalab and Bridge to claim a valuable point on the road to keep their Premiership hopes alive.

“To come here we knew it was going to be a very tough game. But I think playing away against one of the best teams in the league, the point is good,” Cirio told ABC Radio.

“It’s always very difficult to come here. We did a very good job. Now we have three games ahead.”

Reds striker Bruce Djite said he hoped the team shows a little more adventure come finals time but paid tribute to the team’s resolve at Wanderland.

“I’d like to think we take a bit more initiative come the finals,” he told Fox Sports.

“But Wanderers, here (at Pirtek Stadium), (it was a) very tough game. But we showed another side to our game tonight – being compact in a block and defending well.

“A clean sheet here, one point. Would’ve preferred the three but Wanderers were good tonight.”

Bruce Djite and Alberto Aguilar jostle for the ball at Pirtek Stadium on Saturday night.

The Reds game plan to restrict the home side’s fluidity from the back worked well, added Djite.

“It worked to an extent but it was testament to the workrate and character of the boys.

“They really dug in, especially in the last few minutes and lucky Bridgey didn’t put that one away.”

Adelaide now must prepare for a home clash with Central Coast next Sunday followed by Sydney FC then City away.
