Adelaide United Head Coach, Carl Veart, says his side is ready for the test current league leaders, Melbourne City, will pose when they visit Coopers Stadium on Friday night.
Nine points separate the Reds and City, but United are equal second on points, fourth on goal difference. It sets up a mouth-watering encounter – especially since last time the two sides faced one another it ended in a scintillating 3-3 draw.
Speaking to media following his side’s final training session before the match, Veart looked ahead at the fixture.
City test:
“They’ve been the most consistent side out of all the teams in the league so far this year.
“So it’s a good test to see where (our) playing group’s at.
“We know what their strengths are and, at home, we expect to put on a good performance and to make it very difficult for them.
“We’re in good form at the moment, so it’s a good opportunity to be playing against City,
“They’ve had a mixed bag of results over the last few weeks, so we’ll go in with a lot of confidence.”
Kitto returns:
“(Kitto) gives us a lot more balance and a lot more attacking threat with (Goodwin) playing in his natural position.
“And Kitto has been outstanding this year for us.
“He’s scored a lot of goals for us already this year and creates more energy for (Goodwin) when (Kitto’s) playing behind him.”
The run ‘home’:
“First of all, as I said, we’ve got eight games left, five of them are at home.
“It’s important that we just focus on ourselves and if we do what look after ourselves, we don’t have to worry about any anything else.”
