Consistency is the key for Young Reds

On Sunday Afternoon the Adelaide United Youth Team will host Brisbane Roar Youth Team in Round 14 of the Foxtel National Youth League.

Last time these two met back in Round 2 Brisbane snuck home with a 1-0 win.

But since the last encounter Adelaide have restructured their formation and have really come together as a group.

“We were unlucky to leave as losers that day,” said Adelaide United Youth Coach Michael Valkanis.

“From that day I think we’ve improved immensely in regards of formation, but I think (as a team) we’ve improved a lot since then, especially defensively.”

Going now six games undefeated, while notching up five clean sheets in the process is a remarkable effort.

Also coming off a compromising 4-0 victory over the FFA Football Centre of Excellence last week, the Young Reds are confident ahead of this weeks clash.

But Michael Valkanis sees this game as a good test to see where the boys are at.

“Brisbane are a very good youth team and I think they’ve been a good youth team for the last three or four years,” said Valkanis.

“(Last week) we performed well over one game, but I think now, being able to back it up and do it again against a very good team will be a good test.”

And if the Adelaide United Youth Team are able to secure the win, then it would see them leapfrog Brisbane to third on the table, with the possibility of eying off top spot.

But Valkanis is adamant that it’s the performances itself that will be judged, not where they finish on the ladder.

“As a group we’ve spoken about looking at it game by game, and making sure that we can be consistent in the last six games and try to perform in every game,” said Valkanis.

“We’ll see what happens but in the end of the day it’s like it’s been from the start of the season, our performances are the most important thing.”

Adelaide United Youth Team will take on the Brisbane Roar Youth Team this Sunday afternon at the Adelaide Football Shores Sports Complex. Kick-off 3:00pm. Free entry.
