Emily Hodgson says the plan is to keep doing what they are doing and eliminate the dangerous threats when Adelaide United face Sydney FC at Cromer Park this Thursday night.

After a slow start to their Westfield W-League 2018/19 campaign losing three straight, Sydney FC were  dominant in a 5-1 demolition of Brisbane Roar last weekend.

When speaking about Adelaide United’s current undefeated streak, Hodgson says her team continues to go from strength to strength, and is confident the Reds will be able to maintain their positive start to the season against the Sky Blues.

“I think we can do very well against them,” she said.

“It’s going to be a tough game. I think they’re starting to find their form at the moment, but we just need to continue to work hard and to work together as a team.

“Away games are always a challenge, but I think that’s a good thing.

“Playing in front of home crowds is always great, but it’s even better to get away wins.

“I think that’s something we always strive for, to be able to come home with the points.”

The Reds have been difficult to break down having conceded just three goals this season, with two of those coming from open play, scored by one of the world’s best female players, Sam Kerr.

The 18-year-old defender attributed their impressive defensive record not only to her fellow defenders, but also in her team’s ability to apply pressure across the entire field.

“Our backline has been very solid this year, but that also comes from other players everywhere else being able to keep them out, not just from us.”

Now in her third Westfield W-League season, Hodgson credited the importance of continuity with a similar playing group from previous years, while also praising the key addition of the team’s international recruits.

“There’s a real positive vibe this year from having such a good performance so far, it’s definitely been helpful to have the majority of the girls stay together,” she said.

“Of course adding in our new international players has been awesome too.”
