Adelaide United Youth host ladder leaders Brisbane Roar Youth in the penultimate round of the Foxtel Y-League 2018/19 season at Marden on Saturday night, following AUFC Women’s clash with Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Reds have suffered defeats in each of their previous three games, meaning the possibility of securing a finals berth is all but gone.
However, Reds defender, Kristin Konstandopoulos insists there is plenty to play for as they aim to finish the season on a positive note.
“The main thing is to just finish the season strongly,” Konstandopoulos said.
“We started well and had a bit of a slump recently but we just need to pick it up and finish off the season with two wins heading into the (local) NPL which is important.”
It will not be easy though, with Brisbane currently top of the Conference A standings, six points clear of Adelaide.
“We’re expecting a hard match like we did back in Brisbane,” he said.
“I know if we play well like we last time we can definitely get a result.
“We were unlucky last time in Brisbane to get a draw and not get a win.”
United were denied a win in the sunshine state after a later equaliser in the reverse fixture back in November.
Konstandopoulos said Brisbane have a lot of strengths that they must be mindful of, particularly their quick players in wide areas.
“They’ve a lot of talented young players in their team,” he said.
“They’ve fast wingers and some skilful players in the midfield so we definitely have to be wary.
“They’ve had a lot of players go up to the first-team now so they might not be as strong as a side as they did last time but still have a lot of talented players in the team.”
