Adelaide United Youth were left to rue their wastefulness after succumbing to a 1-0 loss against Melbourne Victory Youth on Sunday.
The Reds had a plethora of opportunities in the first-half to open the scoring, but their inability to take their chances ultimately came back to haunt them.
Victory substitute, Nishan Velupillay, who had only just come on, scored the decisive goal following a mazy run into the area before guiding his finish past Isaac Richards.
Adelaide were on top early and should have taken the lead in the 14th minute. Binyam Kebede threaded a pass through for Carlo Armiento but his one-on-one finish was hit straight at the ‘keeper.
Moments later, the Reds had another chance when Lachlan Brook saw a curling attempt land just wide of the far post from the edge of the 18-yard-box.
Adam Leombruno delivered an inviting cross which was met by Jai King, though he could not direct his glancing header on target.

Six minutes before the break Armiento would be denied again.
The winger received a pass from Kebede and checked inside onto his right-foot, before seeing his shot rattle the crossbar.
Armiento and Brook both tested the Victory shot-stopper in the second-half, but he was equal to the task.
And as the visitors began to gain control of the game, they scored via Velupillay’s neat 75th minute finish.
Adelaide’s search for an equaliser would be in vain and they suffered their first defeat of the Foxtel Y-League 2019/20 season.
