Adelaide United Women have suffered a second successive loss after suffering a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Sydney FC Women at Marden Sports Complex on Friday night.

The Reds dominated the match for large spells and had several opportunities to find an equaliser, but Caitlin Foord’s 57th minute finish proved decisive.

New signing Lais Araujo was one of two changes made to the starting XI by Head Coach, Ivan Karlović. The Brazilian was deployed in attacking midfield, while Emily Hodgson featured at right-back ahead of Charlotte Grant.

It was an entertaining first-half with chances aplenty at both ends of the pitch.

Mallory Weber was dangerous throughout the opening 45 minutes creating all sorts of issues for the Sydney defence with her trickery and ability to take players on.

However, it was the Sky Blues who were first to register a shot on target when Sofia Huerta had an effort saved by Sarah Willacy.

Mary Fowler then saw a powerful, low strike saved before United had their best chance moments later. Isabel Hodgson was released by Araujo before running through on goal but her attempt was saved by Aubrey Bledsoe.

Approaching half-time, Adelaide were thwarted by the crossbar as I. Hodgson’s desperate effort ricocheted off the woodwork after lunging in to meet Weber’s cross after another splendid run.

Weber hit the side-netting eight minutes into the second-half after cutting inside and unleashing a venomous strike.

But it was the visitors that opened the scoring when Logarzo disguised a pass into the path of Foord, who finished beyond Willacy.

Princes Ibini-Isei struck the base of the post with a decent long-range effort.

Adelaide pushed players forward in search of an equaliser, however they could not find a way past Bledsoe.

Key moments:

23’ | CHANCE! Araujo plays a defence-splitting through ball for I. Hodgson and her one-on-one shot is parried by Bledsoe.

44’ | CHANCE! I. Hodgson slides in to meet Weber’s low cross following a brilliant run and her effort strikes the crossbar.
