Adelaide United can officially confirm the departure of Ben Garuccio, with the defender joining Scottish Premiership side, Heart of Midlothian.
Garuccio’s contract with the Reds ended upon the completion of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season. Although the Club expressed its interest in retaining the defender, Garuccio signalled his intent with exploring options in Europe – something Adelaide United understands.
Garuccio joined the Reds ahead of the 2016/17 season and made 60 appearances for his hometown side, scoring his only goal last campaign against Wellington Phoenix in Round 25.
Speaking about his departure, 22-year-old Garuccio said he was very thankful to United for giving him an opportunity to play for the Club he supported as a child.

“Firstly I’d like to thank Adelaide United and the fans for their support during my two seasons with the Club,” he said.
“It has been a dream come true for me to represent the Reds – the team I supported as a kid and the team I’ll continue to support in the future.
“I’ve created some great memories at Coopers Stadium and have been fortunate enough to work with some great people along the way – things that will always remain close to my heart.
“It’s sad to be leaving United and South Australia, but I’m looking forward to my next opportunity and what’s to come.”
Adelaide United Head Coach, Marco Kurz, thanked Garuccio and wished him the best for his future.
“I’d like to say thanks to Ben for his hard work and determination throughout last season,” Kurz said.
“Ben is a good footballer and he has an exciting career ahead of him.
“We wish him all the best and hope to see him successful in the next stages of his football journey.”
Adelaide United wishes Ben the best for his future in Scotland and thanks him for his dedication to the Club as a Red.
