Adelaide United goalkeeper, Joe Gauci, has praised his team’s performance to beat Macarthur at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Zach Clough’s 6th minute winner saw the Reds retain the three points on offer, however and inspired Gauci performance ensured the visitors were kept at bay.

Speaking to Paramount+’s Max Burford after the match, and after being named the Player of the Match, Gauci reflected on an eventful 90 minutes.

Game overall:
“What a game.

“It felt like ‘attack vs defence’ for a lot of the game after going a man down early.

“At the back, we stayed resolute, stayed strong, and stayed together as a team.

“The fighting spirit that we have in this group is really strong and I think we really showed that.

“Backs against the wall, three points, clean sheet… move on.”

Unbeatable in the air:
“I try and use my height to come for crosses because it takes a lot of pressure off the back four.

“If I can come in and take (crosses) cleanly, then it relieves a lot of pressure.

“It’s something we’ve worked on a lot over the past three years since I came to the Club and started working with Euge (Galekovic).

“It’s important to make the most of the height that I’ve got and being confident it worked today, I suppose.”
