As new signing, Jordy Thomassen joins Adelaide United on loan until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season from Eredivisie club De Graafschap, here is an overview of his career to date.
The 25-year-old becomes the fourth Dutchman to play for the Reds after the likes of Bobby Petta and Sergio van Dijk.
An imposing striker, Thomassen stands at 1.89m tall and is a natural finisher inside the 18-yard box, capable of scoring in a variety of ways.
His tireless work-rate also enables himself to get into excellent positions.
Naturally a right footer, he is more than adept with his opposite foot and is known for his heading prowess, while having the ability to involve his teammates and provide assists.
Until his move to Adelaide, Thomassen had spent the entirety of his career in his homeland of the Netherlands, predominantly in the Dutch second division.
He began his career at Eerste Divisie outfit, FC Den Bosch, after progressing from the club’s youth team in 2013.
During his two-and-a-half years with the Blue White Dragons, he scored 11 goals and registered 12 assists, before being loaned to fellow second tier side, RKC Waalwijk halfway through the 2015/16 season.
In the summer of 2016, Thomassen signed with Helmond Sport – incidentally the same club where van Dijk flourished to really launch his career as a professional – and bagged a total of 27 goals in 81 appearances, while laying on a further 11 assists.
Following two fruitful seasons with Helmond Sport he caught the attention of newly promoted top-flight team, De Graafschap ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
And following 12 league matches with the club he now embarks on a new journey to Adelaide.
Adelaide United host Brisbane Roar in Round 17 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season on Saturday, 2 February at Coopers Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.20pm ACDT. Gates open 6.20pm.
