Adelaide United forward, George Blackwood, said he was happy to have scored the Reds’ only goal against Brisbane Roar on Friday evening, however would have much preferred to see his side get three points.
Blackwood combined with fellow second-half substitute, Nestory Irankunda, to put Carl Veart’s men in the lead when Irankunda’s corner was met by United’s No. 14. But a late red card to Isaías added to Adelaide’s pressure in the closing stages and saw them concede a late penalty when Javi López was judged to have fouled a Roar forward.
Blackwood said:
“It was a really good ball by Nestor (Irankunda).
“I was just trying to attack the space and get on the end of the cross and that’s what I did.
“I’m happy with that (contribution), but it’s a little bit disappointing with the result the end.
“Overall, I thought we were pretty below our best for most of the game tonight.
“I think it’s what happens with a long break (for the World Cup) because you don’t have games every week.
“We were just off the pace a little bit and probably deserved to win, but, in the end, we’ll take a point.”
