Carl Veart has announced Craig Goodwin will be the Club’s new Captain for the remainder of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2021/22 season.
The 30-year-old is the 11th player in the Club’s history to wear the armband and assumes the new role following the departure of Stefan Mauk to Japan.
Veart also confirmed Ryan Kitto and Isaías will serve as Goodwin’s new vice-captains.
Goodwin, who made his debut for his hometown team in 2014, is currently enjoying his third stint with the Reds.
The winger has scored a total of 40 goals in 125 appearances across all competitions, while this season he has netted seven times in 15 matches.
Speaking on becoming the Reds’ new skipper, Goodwin, said: “Being my hometown club and the history I have here, it’s a tremendous honour to be chosen to be Captain.
“The Club has had some incredible captains and leaders in the past, and I look forward to embracing this responsibility.”
Veart said naming Goodwin as the Club’s new Captain was a rather simple decision, praising his leadership qualities.
“I’ve made it no secret that I believe the Captain should be South Australian, and I’m certain Craig is the right person for the job,” Veart said.
“Craig leads by example on the pitch and always gives maximum effort.
“When Craig speaks and gives his opinion the squad listens and respects what he has to say.
“Craig will be supported by Ryan (Kitto) and Isaías, but I’ve reiterated this before that we have a number of other leaders in this team too.”
The Reds face Perth Glory at HBF Park on Sunday evening.
