Goodwin on facing Victory

Craig Goodwin

Craig Goodwin spoke to the media ahead of Adelaide United’s crucial clash with Melbourne Victory at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.

The third-placed Reds will be determined to snap their three-match winless streak and collect three points to keep the chasing pack at bay.

On Steven Hall’s performance vs Mariners…

I think you could see in the game that Hally (Steven Hall) came in and he played fantastic I thought. He’s been excellent in all the games he’s played so far, so a big one for him being against Melbourne Victory, but one I’m sure he’s very ready for.

On having points in the bank and taking advantage of home fixtures…

To be honest I’d rather be in the position that we’re in at the moment than Victory. Obviously, yes they have the games in hand and they’re a good side, and they can get them (the points), but we’ve got the points on the board. The pressure is on them and it’s also up to us to make sure that with the home run we have coming in; we use those games and the home crowd to really push ourselves forward and give ourselves the best possible finish and table position come the end of the season.

On what makes Victory so difficult…

I think you can see since (Tony) Popovic has come in defensively they’ve been a much better side. And overall they’re a much better side than they were last year. I think they’re structurally a lot better too. I think the last game, obviously we drew with them 1-1, the cup game we played against them I thought we were the better team but mistakes cost us goals. For me that’s been the biggest thing in the games we’ve played against Victory – it’s been that we’ve been punished for our mistakes and we haven’t punished them.
