Adelaide United Captain, Craig Goodwin, says he can’t wait to return to the Socceroos set-up ahead of friendlies against Ecuador.

Goodwin was named in the 26-man squad on Tuesday morning, one of the many returning Socceroos who represented Australia at the Qatar World Cup.

Speaking alongside fellow Socceroos squad member, Joe Gauci, Goodwin explained his thoughts ahead of another trip into camp.

Returning to the Socceroos:
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that your spot in the National Team is never guaranteed.

“At any stage you have to fight for it.

“Like it was for every other camp that I’ve been involved in or tried to try to be involved in, I’ve tried to make sure my form with Adelaide has been as good as it can be.

“And then, when I’m in camp, I’ll be doing my utmost in the training sessions to play.”

Heading into camp with fellow Reds:
“I’m very, very excited and happy for Joe to be included in the squad and for Nestory as well to be included as a train-on player.

“I think, for him (Irankunda) it’s a great opportunity in terms of getting into that environment and seeing what it’s all about and what it can do.

“And for Joe, it’s thoroughly deserved off the back of his performances over not just this season, but last season as well.”

Motivation in Green and Gold?:
“Just putting on that shirt again.

“As I said before, I’ve been on the fringes quite a lot and any chance you have to put on the National Team jersey, and especially play at home… is massive.

“It might be friendly, but I go in there with the full attitude to do my best and perform because, like I said, if I don’t perform, then I might not be in the next squads.

“With the Asian Cup coming up in a year’s time, it’s one of those situations where you have to be performing well and consistently doing well to put (yourself) in a position to be in that squad as well.”
