Hodgson proud of Reds’ effort

Isabel Hodgson made a vital contribution in her 50th Liberty A-League appearance for Adelaide United in a 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

The 25-year-old marked her milestone with an assist following a swift passing move.

The right-back expertly delivered her cross into a perfect area for Paige Hayward to get in front of her defender and score her inaugural goal in the competition on 68 minutes.

“I could just see it opening up,” she told Paramount+ after the match.

“It was a textbook cross, I do them all the time at training, so I’m really happy it pulled off for me.”

The Reds Captain admitted it was a really hard-fought clash in stifling conditions.

She said her side did not play at the level they are capable of, though suggested the fact that they still managed to secure all three points was extremely positive.

“It was a tough game,” Hodgson said.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game against Wellington, but when we don’t play our best it’s always good to grind out and get those three points.

“So I’m really happy with the girls’ effort from bouncing back with the loss last week.”
