Isaías’ best moments in Red

Following the departure of Adelaide United midfielder and Captain Isaías to chase an opportunity abroad, we reminisce on some of the Spaniard’s most iconic moments with the Club.

Indeed, there are countless memories but here are five of the best.

FFA Cup 2014 success
Isaías played a key role in the Reds’ tilt at the inaugural iteration of the FFA Cup back in 2014. He played all five games and was integral during the decider against Perth Glory which yielded a 1-0 victory. His first piece of silverware with the Club.

Sumptuous free-kick helps seal minor premiership
On the final round of the 2015/16 season, Adelaide needed to beat Melbourne City to maintain hope of clinching the Premiers Plate. United got off to the perfect start when the Spaniard slotted an inch-perfect free-kick up and over the wall inside four minutes. Adelaide went on to claim a 2-0 win and in the wake of Brisbane Roar’s draw against Melbourne Victory the following day, United finished at the summit of the table.

Lifting the Championship
Presumably the moment Isaías holds dearest to his heart was securing an elusive Championship to complete an unprecedented double in 2016. The midfielder helped inspire the Reds to a 3-1 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in front of a crowd in excess of 50,000 people at Adelaide Oval. His stunning, curling free-kick which nestled into the top corner will forever be synonymous with the match with Simon Hill on commentary famously uttering the words, ‘Si Signor Si’. His influential display also culminated in collecting the Joe Marston Medal.

Second FFA Cup triumph as skipper
This time as Captain, Isaías led the team to a pulsating 2-1 triumph against Sydney FC, thanks in large to a sensational individual Craig Goodwin performance. The result avenged their previous cup final defeat against the same opponent 12 months earlier. And the moment the then 31-year-old got to hoist the trophy in the air, on stage at Coopers Stadium, a simultaneous cacophonous roar reverberated around the terraces.

Club-record fourth MVP award
Isaías claimed his third straight Aurelio Vidmar Club Champion award at the Club’s Awards night a few weeks’ ago and fourth overall. He played every single minute of all 34 games in both the FFA Cup and Hyundai A-League in 2018/19, sustaining an absurd level of consistency while scoring four goals in the process. A truly phenomenal player.
