Talented Adelaide United midfielder, Jonny Yull, has signed his first major contract, committing to the Club for the next three years.

Yull became the third-youngest player to represent Adelaide at 15 years and 321 days, after his substitute appearance against Perth Glory in Round 4 of the 2020/21 Isuzu UTE A-League.

He has since made a total of nine appearances for the Reds, including his first two starts in the recently completed 2022/23 campaign.

Yull has risen through United’s youth system, first signing a scholarship contract in 2021 after impressive performances in the local RAA NPLSA.

Head Coach, Carl Veart, praised the commitment and versatility of the 18-year-old.

“Jonny has been a great addition to our squad already for a few years now and he is tracking very well in his development,” he said.

‘We’ve seen what he’s capable of with both feet and he is in the right environment to keep growing and progressing his game at this Club.

“We were able to utilise him in the run-in to Finals last season which was great for us and very much beneficial for his experience.”

Yull can play anywhere through the midfield with a sublime change of pace and dribbling ability, and a well-documented ambidextrous ability he says was gained from his father’s encouragement.

“It’s exciting to see what the future holds and signing for Adelaide where I grew up means a lot to me,” he said.

“In terms of my goals going forward, I want to play as many games as I can for United while continuing to adapt to the quality of the A-League.

“In terms of playing with both feet, I’m actually mostly right-footed but it was my dad fortunately who always encouraged me to use my left as well from a very young age, and it progressed from there.”

The Yull family originally derives from the market town, Amersham in England where Jonny was also born, and they moved to South Australia when he was three.

“I’d only ever known football and my brothers played for the school over in the UK and we always watched Arsenal, so I was definitely born into it,” he said

Yull consolidated the signing with the first goal in Adelaide United’s 1-2 win over Croydon in Round 21 of the RAA NPLSA.
