Marco Kurz says Adelaide United are focused on finishing the season strongly against the Western Sydney Wanderers in readiness for their do-or-die elimination final a week later.

The Reds will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat against Sydney FC and try and build some momentum ahead of the impending finals series.

Kurz admitted he is pleased Adelaide achieved their initial objective of qualifying for the top six.

“The target was to reach the finals and we reached the finals and that’s for us a big success,” Kurz said.

“The team improved very well from the whole season, we stayed the whole time in the top six positions – that’s a big compliment for the group and each player.

“For us now we’ll finish our season with a victory that’s our target for the game against the Wanderers.”

The German said the goal now is to end the regular season on a positive note to maintain morale and belief in the finals.

United will secure a fifth place finish in the league standings if they avoid a three-goal defeat.

“I think it’s important to finish the season with a victory,” he said.

“Also it’s an away game against a strong team, Wanderers have played the last games very well and they need every point to reach the finals.

“It’s always good to go to the finals with a good feeling and that’s our target.

“We know the Wanderers are a strong team, but I think we’re well prepared and looking forward to the game.”

With the Reds expected to play every match on the road if they are to reach the Grand Final, Kurz said his team had no issues with the constant travel and perceived disadvantage.

“The away games for us are not a problem,” he said.

“We are in good shape and the boys are fit and that’s the position.

“If you finish the season in three or four you can play at home, we’re not in this position and then we must play away.

“But for us it’s not a problem, we’d love to play at home… But we’re confident to play away because on a good day we can beat every team.”

Adelaide United face Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 27 of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season on Sunday, 15 April at ANZ Stadium. Kick-off is at 4.30pm ACST.
