Marco Kurz admits he prefers to play teams that implement an attacking brand of football ahead of Adelaide United’s trip to face the Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

The Jets are known for their expansive style of play which in turn can leave them susceptible at the back and in transition.

Kurz explained that as a coach it is much easier to find gaps in the opposition when they push forward with numbers, rather than a defensive-minded side where the primary intent is to remain compact.

“I think it’s clear that Newcastle’s strengths are their offensive style,” Kurz told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

“They’re one of the teams that create the most chances in the league.

“I like to play against offensive teams compared to defensive teams because it’s much harder.

“And you saw in the last game from us against Western Sydney if you’re not focused the whole time you can concede very easy goals.

“I think our performance against Newcastle last time was okay and I think we know what we expect from them.”

In their two previous encounters against them this season, the Reds managed a 1-1 draw at Coopers Stadium and a late 2-1 win at McDonald Jones Stadium back in Round 10.

Kurz added that he does not anticipate Newcastle to struggle with fatigue following their midweek exploits in Asia.

The Jets suffered a 4-1 away loss in their AFC Champions League play-off against Japanese giants, Kashima Antlers.

“I think Newcastle would be in a better position to answer,” he stated.

“I wouldn’t like to speculate if they’re tired or not, but what I expect is the strongest line-up and the strongest team from Newcastle.

“Their game was on Tuesday which means they have five days until their next game and they’re all professional players.”

Adelaide United face Newcastle Jets in Round 20 of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season on Sunday, 24 February at McDonald Jones Stadium. Kick-off is at 4.30pm ACDT. Live on Fox Sports, and streamed on the My Football Live App and Kayo Sports.
