The Lady Reds squad for the 2012/13 Westfield W-League season will boast three high-quality Kiwi internationals, including returning skipper Abby Erceg, as well as Sarah McLaughlin and Holly Patterson, with all three a part of New Zealand-s 2012 London Olympic Squad.
Returning from last year-s squad are local stars Kristi Harvey, Ruth Wallace, Rachael Quigley, Marijana Rajcic, Grace Henry, Emma Checker and Georgia Macri while coach Dave Edmondson also added promising SA talent with the additions of Cassandra Tsoumbris, Elise Whorlow, Jenna McCormick, Jessica Waterhouse, Laura Johns and reserve keeper Kelly Barltrop.
Coming into the squad from interstate is Alex Natoli, Jessie Wharepouri, Ann Mayo and Lorena Maggio.
Edmondson hinted the 2012/13 squad is more balanced than in previous years and one that is keen to see the Lady Reds return to the top half of the table.
“It-s a much more well-rounded squad than last year,” he said.
“There are more options all round the field and a couple more exciting players further up the field this season. Also, it-s a young squad who are eager to learn and eager to turn around Adelaide’s fortunes.”
“One of the major goals is to play the style and kind of football that we want to and that we have been training to play for the last year with the NTC and for the last couple of months with the W-League squad. That is, we want to play an exciting style of football based on bravery in possession and attacking flair.”
