Marrone commits to Reds for further two years

Adelaide United is delighted to officially announce the re-signing of defender Michael Marrone on a two-year contract extension.

Marrone’s new deal means the Adelaide local will remain with his hometown Club until the conclusion of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

The 30-year-old has accumulated 95 appearances for the Reds, scoring one goal in the process across his two spells with the Club.

The reliable right-back made his debut for United in 2008, before experiencing a breakout campaign during the 2009/10 season.

After stints with the formerly named Melbourne Heart and Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenxin, Marrone returned to ply his trade with the Reds in February 2014.

In his second coming with Adelaide, the defender has enjoyed great success, lifting the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup in December 2014 as well as winning the Premiers’ Plate and Championship double last year.

Speaking on his decision to re-sign with the Club Marrone said: “It’s good being from Adelaide and I wanted to stay here and it was a really easy decision,” he revealed.

“I had a great year last year with the memories of winning the grand final and I hope to do it again in the future.

“I’m really happy and it’s been really good the whole time I’ve been with Adelaide and I’m looking forward to playing here every week.

“It’s a great stadium with great fans and we’ve got a good team, so hopefully we can get the results we deserve soon.”

Adelaide United General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic, said the re-signing of Marrone was another step towards in re-building the Club’s playing squad.

“Re-signing Michael is another step in the right direction for the Club and shows our intent on retaining the core group of our players.

“Michael was integral to the success we had last season and being from South Australia is a significant positive for our Club.”
