A marvellous hat-trick by Makenzy Doniak was the major difference in Adelaide United’s 3-1 win over Perth Glory in Round 3 of the Westfield W-League at Marden Sports Complex on Friday night.
As Perth were without star, Sam Kerr, it was Adelaide who proved to be the stronger side through Doniak up front, with the great assisting of Adriana Jones, and also the elite sharpness of the whole squad for most of the night.
After a nervy few seconds, it didn’t take long for Adelaide United to convert a golden opportunity into the lead, when Jones collected the ball in the penalty area for Doniak to nicely finish inside four minutes.
In the 31st minute, an unstoppable Doniak scored her second to double the lead after Jones set her up again perfectly.
A diving save by Adelaide goalkeeper, Eliza Campbell, denied Tabain’s header after Tash Rigby’s curled ball into the area.
In an otherwise great performance, an unfortunate error at the back for Captain, Emma Checker, saw Perth get one back through an own goal in the second half.
Rachel Hill started to press and cause some issues for United’s defence but the hosts muscled through and the American, Doniak completed her well-deserved hat-trick exceptionally.
