Mells: Anything is possible

George Mells says he’s confident Adelaide United can set a new club record of 14 consecutive matches without defeat and continue this good form into the Finals.

One of Adelaide United’s up-and-coming midfielders, George Mells, believes the Reds are basking in confidence, so much so that he’s of the opinion he and his teammates can achieve anything throughout the remainder of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season.

With United’s Finals chances arguably as great as they have ever been, Mells emphasised that credit must be paid to the entire squad and coaching staff for the way the Club have conducted themselves over what has been a hectic season.

“To have the chance to be 14 games unbeaten anywhere in the world is an unbelievable achievement, and it is a credit to all the players at Adelaide United and how we have been playing recently,” Mells said.

“I am very confident that we can keep this run going and I’m sure that the rest of the team do also.

“We just have to continue to do what we are good at, remain focussed, and it is possible for our form to get better as each game goes on.

“Anything is possible, especially in the Hyundai A-League, and it has been seen before where teams do amazing things and go undefeated, we can do the same.

“I believe we have the talent that will take us through to continue the run and to make something special happen this season, considering the start we had to where we are now it’s definitely an achievement in itself and once again a credit to the players and coaching staff.

“Guillermo (Amor) has a great philosophy and nothing has changed from now to the start of the season. We’re putting into play what he wants a lot better and it was just a matter of adjusting.”

Ahead of the Reds’ next match against Wellington Phoenix on Saturday, Mells commented saying that the team’s main focus is on their own game and attaining the three points.

“We try not to focus too much on the other teams and their form, but solely focus on how we are playing and what we want to achieve,” he continued.

“Wellington have been in good form, and they have beaten us in the past, so we’ll have to go there and try and beat them.

“There are no excuses heading into the game and over to Wellington, it is how we perform on the day as a team.

“We’ll have to give our best performance that we can, to get the victory against the Phoenix.”
