Adelaide United can confirm that Assistant Coach Michele Lastella will depart the Club after five years of outstanding service. Michele was offered the position of Head Coach of the A-League Women’s team, but has decided to pursue continued opportunities with Football SA and Football Australia with our full support.
Michele has been a valued and respected member of the Club since joining as an Assistant Coach in September 2019. His contribution to the growth of Adelaide United’s football program and, more broadly, the South Australian football landscape has been immense.
While Michele will be stepping away from his A-League Women’s duties, he will continue in his position as Head Coach of the NTC Women’s program at Football South Australia — a role he has held since November 2018.

Michele Lastella gave thanks, stating:
“As I step away after five incredible years, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thank you to Adelaide United Football Club. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of this journey — to grow alongside such dedicated players, passionate staff, and a supportive community.
To the players I’ve had the honour to coach: thank you for your trust, effort, and the memories we’ve shared. This is only a goodbye for now, not forever,” Lastella concluded.

Throughout his tenure at Adelaide United, Michele consistently juggled a demanding schedule with humility and purpose — balancing Club duties, his responsibilities with the NTC, and his role as a Senior Lecturer at CQUniversity. His genuine dedication to the growth of women’s football, both on and off the pitch, has left an enduring mark on countless players, coaches, and emerging South Australian talent.
A respected mentor and coach, Michele has played a vital role in shaping the next generation of footballers in South Australia. His influence extends to the national stage, currently serving as Assistant Coach of the Junior Matildas alongside former Football South Australia Technical Director, Michael Cooper.
Technical Director Ernest Faber paid tribute to Michele and thanked him for his service to the Club:
“Michele has been a steady, thoughtful presence at Adelaide United for many years. He’s always carried himself with care and humility, and the way he’s supported our young players and helped shape the environment here has left a real mark,” Faber said.

“We’re truly thankful for everything he’s given to the Club. He’s someone we’re proud to have worked alongside, and we’re excited to see where his coaching journey takes him next,” Faber concluded.
Adelaide United thanks Michele for his dedication, professionalism, and passion over the past five years. He will always be part of the Reds family, and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in the next chapter of his journey.
Thank you, Michele!
