NPL SA Round 5 Recap: Slick second-half dethrones Knights

An efficient second-half display, highlighted by a Pacifique Niyongabire brace, has guided Adelaide United Youth to a 3-0 win over Para Hills Knights at The Paddocks on Saturday.

Carlo Armiento opened the scoring after half-time for the Young Reds and Niyongabire was at the double late on to seal a second successive victory.

Chances were few and far between in the first 45 and it was very much a game of attrition as Adelaide eventually broke down their dogged opponents.

It took a sublime Armiento strike on 54 minutes to do so, as he curled a fabulous effort into the top left corner from inside the 18-yard box.

United Youth were rarely troubled from a defensive perspective and with the match still only 1-0 to the visitors, Niyongabire doubled the advantage.

A neat move on the right wing saw Al Hassan Toure’s low cross from the right fall to the winger who was on hand to tap in his opportunistic finish from close range 13 minutes from time.

The 19-year-old then netted his second of the afternoon and fifth of the season after latching onto a long ball before having the awareness to lob the onrushing Para Hills’ keeper.

It was a superb effort from Niyongabire ensuring the Young Reds would make it two wins in a row and maintain their status in the top six for another week.

Paul Pezos’ side now has the week off due to the preliminary FFA Cup Round and return to league action against Croydon Kings in a fortnight.
