NPLSA Round 22 Recap: Young Reds’ season ends in defeat

Adelaide United Youth endured a 4-0 loss to close out the 2021 campaign against Cumberland United at Bailey Reserve on Saturday night.

Thomas Briscoe inspired his team to victory, netting a hat-trick in the final 13 minutes of the first-half before scoring a fourth in the 90th minute to consign the Young Reds to their heaviest defeat of the year.

The veteran striker opened the scoring via the penalty spot in the 34th minute before the floodgates opened.

He helped himself to a second moments later after tapping in Steven Hall’s initial parry from a cross.

Two-nil became 3-0 in first-half stoppage time, side-volleying Schoen’s cross into the top corner.

Despite United Youth dominating possession they were futile in attack and Briscoe grabbed a fourth at the expense of the visitors pushing for a consolation.

Briscoe latched onto a through ball inside his own half with three defenders pushed too high and he dribbled forward and kept his composure to bury his one-on-one finish as the Foxes avoided relegation.

The Young Reds finish the season in ninth place with 25 points.
