Kristian Opseth was thrilled to score for the second straight game but felt Adelaide United’s “impatience” hurt their chances of collecting three points against Wellington Phoenix.
The Reds played out a 1-1 draw at Bankwest Stadium on Saturday night after Opseth’s beautifully executed second-half header was extinguished when Jaushua Sotirio sprung the offside trap.
Paul Izzo then denied Ulises Davila from the penalty after guessing the correct way to save the Mexican’s tame attempt.
“For a striker it’s always nice to score goals,” Opseth told Fox Sports after taking his tally to four league goals for the campaign.
“When Ben started running down the wing it was just about getting in the box.”
Despite an impressive first 45 by Adelaide, the Norwegian striker believed Adelaide lost control of the match a little after the interval, forcing the ball forward too often.
“I feel like we were getting a bit impatient,” he admitted.
“We were stepping maybe a bit forward in the press when we shouldn’t.
“Same when we had the ball, instead of keeping it, we’re going forward.
“In the first-half we were keeping better but still stuff we need to work on to maybe create a bit more.
“But in the second-half we just got impatient and gave the ball away too easily.”

The Reds sit provisionally in sixth spot in the standings, with Western United trailing United by one point with two games in hand after their 2-1 triumph over Melbourne Victory.
However, with three regular season games to go Opseth was certain they were moving in the right direction and will only keep improving.
“We just have to keep going like we are,” he continued.
“I feel like this was a step up from last week as well even though we don’t get more than one point today.
“Even though Izzo saves a penalty and saves us again I would say.
“But we just have to keep on going and I’m sure we’ll get better and better.”
