New Adelaide United striker, Kristian Opseth, says he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Hyundai A-League for the upcoming season.

The Norwegian talisman has scored 98 goals in 181 appearances in his career so far which has predominantly been spent in his homeland, in addition to a recent six-month spell in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Opseth said the opportunity to embrace a new challenge and play football in Australia with the Reds was extremely enticing.

“It sounded very interesting and exciting and I looked up the coach and how they play,” Opseth explained to reporters at Coopers Stadium when asked about his decision to join Adelaide.

“And the league as well it’s a high intensity, it’s an improving league I feel and it just sounded right to me and was a chance I felt was a good one for me right now and I’m really looking forward to get started.”

Opseth attended United’s second friendly against Raiders on Tuesday night and was captivated by the high tempo so early into pre-season.

“I watched the game and I was amazed by the intensity of the game,” he said after the Reds claimed a 5-0 win.

“It was only the second game of the pre-season and to have that kind of intensity I’ve never seen that before.”

The 29-year-old, who is also the first Norwegian player to ply his trade in the Hyundai A-League, described his strongest attributes.

“I would say I’m mainly a box player in and around the box, trying to get into positions to score the goals,” he said.

“I would say that’s my biggest strength as well to be in the right places and to put the ball in and I have a good left foot as well.”

Adelaide United face Melbourne Knights in the Round of 32 of the FFA Cup 2019 on Wednesday, 7 August at Knights Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.00pm ACST. Live and Exclusive on Fox Sports.
