Adelaide United is thrilled to announce Carl Veart has joined Gertjan Verbeek’s coaching team ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.
The news follows the appointments of Eugene Galekovic as the Club’s Goalkeeping Coach and Bruce Djite as the Club’s Director of Football.
The Reds’ first ever goalscorer returns to the Club from the Football Federation of South Australia where he was the NTC Head Coach. Veart holds an AFC Pro Licence and was previously an Australian U-20 Assistant Coach as well as an Assistant Coach at United during the tenure of Aurelio Vidmar.
Veart was an accomplished professional footballer having represented the Socceroos 18 times. At club-level, his career spanned 19 years in both Australia and England with Adelaide City, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Millwall, and, of course, Adelaide United.
Speaking on his return to United, Veart said: “Adelaide United has always had a special place in my heart, playing for the Club and representing the people of South Australia.
“So to come back and be part of the coaching staff ahead of the new season, it’s something I’m really looking forward to and I’m honoured to be given this opportunity.
“It’s going to be a great learning experience for me, working alongside Gertjan who has had a lot of experience in Europe.
“I’m eager to offer my experience as well, especially as a former player of Adelaide United.
“I’ve had other opportunities to return to the Club in the past four or five years, but the timing never felt right until now.
“Now the Club is really trying to get back to being a club for all the people and pushing everything in the right direction, which is something I’m really excited to be involved with.”
Adelaide United Director of Football, Bruce Djite, lauded Veart’s return, saying: “Carl is a phenomenal acquisition for us and he brings a wealth of experience to this role with a long-established connection to the Club.
“Carl is not only a great coach, but also a great person to have around and I am sure his contribution will be invaluable to Gertjan and the rest of the coaching staff and players.
“Being a former player of this Club and a proud South Australian, Carl truly understands and believes in the Club’s vision and what we stand for, as well as what we mean to the people of South Australia.
“Carl’s knowledge and experience of football in SA, nationally and internationally will be crucial moving forward and I’m sure his addition to our coaching staff will be incredibly beneficial for both our senior and youth footballers.
“I believe Carl is a perfect fit for Adelaide United moving forward.”
